Jan Appleton – Trustee and Director
Jan is a qualified teacher with over 15 years in school experience. Her most senior role to date was as an Assistant Headteacher in a large secondary school where she led on Student Inclusion. Her whole school responsibilities included behaviour management, attendance strategy and child protection and she was heavily involved in working with young people who were not engaging well in the mainstream setting in order to develop bespoke programs that would allow continued progress. She has a vast experience in multi-agency working and has held various leadership and governance positions in the local community. In addition, she fosters teenagers for the local authority. A great believer in life-long learning, she has completed both Leadership Pathways (NCSL) and an MA in Educational Leadership. Jan has a passion for seeing young people reach their potential and for breaking the negative cycles within society that can otherwise lead to generational poverty. Her heart is to see young people develop a sense of worth that impacts the way they live their lives.
Louise Lloyd-Jarvis – Trustee
Louise is a qualified teacher who worked for 7 years in Key stages 4 and 5 where posts included year head and setting up and running a number of extra curricula activities including Duke of Edinburgh. Since leaving the educational role, she has worked in the charitable sector for a number of years, both in the UK and overseas. She has been involved in the setting up of two charities, going on to be a trustee for one and has returned to the other, now employed as the Managing Director. Working for an international charity in Chad, Louise project managed the education programmes in four refugee camps, and worked with locals to develop the systems to support their work and ensure they were compliant with UNHCR and funding requirements. Her passion is to be developing systems within organisations that complement rather than control the workers to be able to positively impact the lives of others. Louise is also currently completing a Masters in Development Management through Open University.
Sarah Reilly – Trustee
Sarah is a strategic planner with experience of working with local and international non-profit organisations in the UK, Hong Kong and across sub-Saharan Africa. To date, she has worked with non-profits in community development, health, education and social work sectors. She is passionate about individuals and organisations being able to thrive within their current environments. Sarah works to help identify the change they wish to see both personally or within their community and identify different ways to reach these goals. With a postgraduate certificate in NGO Management and a MSc in Molecular Medicine she is a problem solver who likes to understand the root causes of issues and apply understanding and ongoing learning to new problems. She loves travelling and outdoor activities including scuba diving, skiing and hiking.
Tim O’Hare – Trustee
Tim lives in Llanelli, South Wales, with his wife Ann. He has a broad career portfolio which includes over seventeen years in South Wales Police. As well as community beat work, he delivered input on Crime, Drugs Education and Personal Safety in local schools, and also worked in the Police Media Production Unit as part of a team producing training films and resources such as counter terrorism training for senior officers. After leaving the police Tim set up a video production company with Ann specialising in promotional films for charities and community groups. During this time they produced National Teacher Training materials focusing on children with additional needs in mainstream education. Tim and Ann are now working for their local authority as foster carers for parent and child placements. Throughout their lives, they have been involved in a wide variety of voluntary work overseeing youth work in Cardiff and Llanelli for many years and young offender inputs. Tim, Ann and their three grown up children are all accomplished musicians and perform regularly in various settings. Tim teaches guitar and bass and works with Ann to develop group mentoring and band dynamics for emerging artists. In his spare time Tim likes to cycle, cook and kayak. He also enjoys fishing but confesses he is not very good!
Phil Pusey – Trustee
Originally from London, Phil has been involved in youth work in Staffordshire for over 25 years. He first moved into management and leadership roles in a frontline youth work charity based in Burton-upon-Trent and has more recently become CEO for a voluntary sector infrastructure organisation. He is a Member of the Chartered Manager’s Institute, and has a Diploma in Transformational Leadership. Phil continues to volunteer in a variety of community settings including Academy and Community Trust Chaplain at Burton Albion FC and the Burton Street Angels team, providing assistance to users of the night-time economy. He is also a Trustee of the ‘Hope in Burundi’ Charity working to feed, clothe, house and educate street kids in Burundi, Central Africa. Phil is on the Leadership Team at his local church and still plays 5 a side football regularly to stay healthy. He is married to Maria, and has 3 children all aged over 18.
